Twentieth Century Fox, 1960. A group of twenty-one watercolor on paper paintings that were used in the opening title sequence of the film that starred Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Maurice Chevalier, and Louis Jourdan. All depict beautiful and colorful Toulouse-Lautrec-style images of dancing girls, interior spaces, and Parisian streets; some works are mounted to cardboard, some have masking tape on the upper right-side corners with the actor's name penned in, and some have additional quickly-rendered drawings on the verso. Both Sinatra's and MacLaine's names can be seen faintly on their paintings, but the rest have a blank space where the credits were later placed. Two of the watercolors are not actually seen in the finished version of the film, and two that were seen are now missing; the last work is the most spectacular as it shows a street scene (with no empty white space for credits as all the rest) of Montmarte [a neighborhood in Paris] with the famous Moulin Rouge in the background - this last painting dissolves into the actual set as the first scene starts. Tom Keogh likely painted these works as he was listed as the 'title designer' and famed all-round designer, Tony Duquette, was credited as the 'styling consultant.' Each individual watercolor is a piece of art in itself, and together they make a vibrant display, evoking fin de siecle Paris.
